Once work on the project begins, images will be added to the webpage to provide visitors an up to date view of Downtown Rocky Mount. Thanks to Self Help Credit Union, many of these images will be provided through use of a camera located on the roof of the Peoples Bank Building. Check back often to see how work is progressing on the Downtown Streetscape Project.

Downtown Stakeholder Informational Meetings
Meetings were held on Thursday, March 24, 2011 at 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. at Mount Zion Christian Church located at 100 SW Main Street with downtown property owners, tenants, and other downtown stakeholders to discuss the scope of the project and the sequence of construction. In addition to discussing the scope of the project, the attendees were provided with contact information for the City’s Project Manager and the contractor, Barnhill Construction Company.
Project Ground Breaking
A ground breaking ceremony for the project was held on Thursday, March 24, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. with the Honorable G.K. Butterfield in attendance. Congressman Butterfield was instrumental in helping to provide a significant portion of the funding required to plan, design, and construct the Downtown Streetscape Project. Also in attendance was Mayor David Combs, City Council, and City Manager Charles Penny. Following the ceremony, a reception was hosted at the Four Seasons Restaurant (formerly the Carleton House) located at 213 North Church Street.
Project Status Reports
Periodic reports will be posted on the webpage summarizing progress on construction of the Downtown Streetscape improvements. Information regarding current efforts, upcoming work, parking availability, and other items of interest will be provided at this location. Reports will be archived in chronological order so that visitors can follow the progression of work on the project.
