We are pleased to present a new series of videos produced using City GIS data and software from ESRI®. Each video clip represents an animated 3D "fly-over" of a location or area of interest in or around the City of Rocky Mount. Existing topographic (elevation) data in the City's GIS is used to generate a 3-dimensional surface over which aerial photography and other GIS features are "draped". Features such as buildings, electric utility poles, fire hydrants, etc., are located on the map and represented with accurate 3D symbols set to the proper scale. Trees, cars, and other features not part of our standard GIS data can also be added. The path and duration of the fly-through, as well as the altitude and angle of the camera can be customized to any desired parameters. The software used is ArcGIS 9.x with the 3D Analyst extension. For more information on how these videos were made, contact the GIS Office at 252-972-1205 or email gis@rockymountnc.gov.
